During his live broadcasts, TXT‘s Soobin often talks about some of the shows he’s been watching lately. Out of the anime he’s mentioned, here are seven of the ones you’ll want to check out. You might even find a new favorite.
1. Munou na Nana
The anime that recently sparked Soobin’s interest in the genre was Munou na Nana, also known as Talentless Nana. He loved it so much he bought the physical manga copies.
It takes place in a future where Earth is overrun with monsters. To keep them at bay, superpowered teenagers—and one without any powers—fight them to save the world.
2. Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day
Five years after her death, a young girl appears as a ghost to reunite her friends. She reminds them to complete a forgotten wish that’ll put her to rest and help them deal with her passing.
3. Maquia: When The Promised Flower Blooms
Maquia is a supernatural being that can live for hundreds of years but knows nothing of the world outside her home. After war changes the only home she knows, she ends up in an unknown place and raising a baby into an adult.
4. Tokyo Ghoul
A male college student’s life is turned upside down after being attacked by a ghoul—supernatural beings who look like humans but eat human flesh to survive.
5. Violet Evergarden
After acting as a powerful weapon in the war, Violet Evergarden settles into civilian life by becoming a letter writer, learning about herself and the past that haunts her.
It turned out to be so beautiful and touching that Soobin couldn’t help but cry when watching it.
I cried when I watched it. I cried when I watched the theater version. It was so sad.
Taking a sharp turn, Kakegurui follows students at Hyakkaou Private Academy, attended by those with the richest parents in the world. While other schools focus only on studying, these students are learning the ups and downs of gambling.
Soobin warned that it may seem overdramatic at the beginning for some but was worth it to keep watching.
It’s good. But at first I feel like it has the over-reacting expression, and I didn’t like the picture. So I was going to quit after watching episode one, but it’s so good after I finished them all.
7. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is the sequel to Fullmetal Alchemist, following the journey of two brothers as they try to find the Philosopher’s Stone and encounter an evil plot that could destroy the entire world.
Because there are scenes of gore that may not be for the faint at heart, Soobin was one of them and explained how brutal it could be. Gore aside, the anime is beloved by many and has rave reviews.
It was shocking… It made me lose [my] appetite. I didn’t like it much.
Soobin named Steins;Gate and Jujutsu Kaisen as the next anime that are on his watchlist, both of which have good reviews from anime watchers.
