The leader of a K-Pop group plays a huge role, as they are the one who helps keep the group together. Groups and companies have different ways of selecting the leader of a particular group. Here’s the story on how these 10 K-Pop leaders were selected.
1. Leeteuk (Super Junior)
Super Junior’s leader was selected quite easily, as Lee Soo Man selected him because of his age.
2. RM (BTS)
RM is the leader of BTS because he was the start of BTS.
3. Jihyo (TWICE)
Before TWICE’s debut, Park Jin Young decided to talk with the TWICE members about selecting a leader.
He emphasized that many qualities are needed in a leader, but the one he finds most important is sacrifice. The members later anonymously voted on their leader, and Jihyo received the most votes.
4. Seungyoon (WINNER)
During Who Is Next: WIN, Mino was the original leader of the group. After Mino got injured, Yang Hyun Suk decided to make Seungyoon the new leader.
5. Suho (EXO)
Suho was selected to be the leader of EXO due to him having the longest training time among the members.
6. Nayoung (I.O.I), Jisung (WANNA ONE), Eunbi (IZ*ONE), and Seungwoo (X1)
All the groups from the Produce series have a “tradition” when it comes to picking their leader. All the members vote on who should be the leader, and the member with the most votes wins.
Nayoung was selected to be I.O.I’s leader when she received the most votes out of all the members.
Jisung got 8 out of the 11 possible votes, which made him WANNA ONE’s leader.
Every member of IZ*ONE, except for Eunbi herself, voted Eunbi to be their leader.
All the X1 members, except for Seungwoo himself, picked Seungwoo to be the leader.
7. Baekhyun (SuperM)
Baekhyun was selected to be SuperM’s leader due to his personality and how he was able to bring all the members together.
Bonus: Sungjae (Temporary leader of BTOB)
While Eunkwang is the leader of BTOB, the members decided to pick a temporary leader when he went to the military. Sungjae was ultimately selected but in a humorful way.
