BTS Jin And Suga May Not Be Able To Participate In World Tour From Next Year Due To Military Duty

Here’s a detailed explanation of the current military law and what it means for BTS.

It has been brought to attention that BTS may not be able to continue as a 7-member group starting next year due to Jin and Suga‘s inevitable mandatory military service.

According to the Military Manpower Administration, Korean men who are above the age of 25 (international age) must receive permission for overseas travel. More specifically, those who are between the ages of 25 to 27 (international age) can receive up to 5 leaves over the 2 years with 1 leave being within a six month period.

If so, it may be difficult for all 7 members of BTS to participate in their global schedules starting from next year.

The oldest member, Jin, who is turning 27 years old (international age) this year, will be 28 next year and will most likely have to enlist in the military. Moreover, it may be difficult for Suga, who is currently 26 years old, to join BTS’s global schedule after the latter half of next year considering the planned global awards ceremonies, world tour schedules and duration of stay.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism visited the Military Manpower Administration last month with a military service exemption proposition in relation to BTS and other K-Pop idols in their situation but the Military Manpower Administration did not provide much response.

Some assume that the Military Manpower Administration would probably feel pressured about changing the law as it has only been just over a year since the military laws have been revised.

Meanwhile, BTS successfully completed their Europe tour and is set to attend their official global fan meeting “BTS 5th MUSTER ‘MAGIC SHOP'” on June 15-16 in Busan and June 22-23 in Seoul.
