BTS Nominated For Order Of Cultural Merit At 2018 Korean Popular Culture And Arts Award

BTS may just make history once more!

The Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism announced that BTS was nominated for the 2018 Korean Popular Culture and Arts Award.

BTS was nominated for the Order of Cultural Merit category, which is awarded to the person/group who has achieved outstanding and meritorious service in the fields of culture and art for the purpose of promoting the national culture and development. The Order of Cultural Merit is actually a more prestigious award than the Presidential Award, which BTS was nominated for in 2017.

BTS was nominated for the incredible success they’ve accumulated over the years, especially their most recent achievement in becoming the first K-Pop act to rank 1st on Billboard 200.

“BTS has received recognition among the global music industry including Korea, Japan and the US. They are a singer-songwriting idol group, consisting of members who each have the ability to write and compose their own songs.”

The only K-Pop act to be awarded the Order of Merit was PSY. He received it back in 2012 for his global “GANGNAM STYLE” phenomenon. No K-Pop group has yet to receive this award, meaning BTS may just make history once more.

The official winner will be announced by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism in October, with the ceremony set to take place on October 31.
