BTS’s Debut At Number 4 On The Billboard Hot 100 Is More Than Just A Number

Congrats to BTS!

Billboard has confirmed BTS’s debut on the Hot 100 Chart at number 4 with their new title track “ON” from their album MAP OF THE SOUL: 7.

Member Jimin’s solo track “Filter” and Jungkook’s “My Time” have also entered the chart at 84 and 87 respectively.

They are now the first Korean artists to have three songs on the Hot 100 at the same time.

These chart rankings are important because they were able to hit number four without any radio play or bundles.

Korean music critic and author Youngdae Kim gave his thoughts about this accomplishment through Twitter.

“Radio is the last barrier for the mainstream U.S. music industry to retain their influence. Although there are many stations, ones with influence are limited to the songs they select to play, and virtually they use the same playlist repeatedly throughout the year. Through this, they are forcing ‘popularity’ to the public through this system.”

“BTS ranking fourth on the Billboard Hot 100 chart is more than a number in that it is the result of not receiving the benefits of mainstream radio. The success of the group in the U.S. market is not just a ‘hit’ but a result of local fans that support music of foreign artists and breaking the system barriers with enthusiasm and unity.”

The hashtags #BTSWORLDDOMINATION and #ON4onHot100 trended on Twitter to celebrate and congratulate the boys on their amazing accomplishment.

Congrats to the boys! We’re excited to see what else they have in store for 2020!
