Netflix Just Announced 13 New Original K-Dramas And K-Movies For 2021, Here’s What They’re All About

Which show are you looking forward to the most?

As part of Netflix Korea’s preview for 2021 in their See What’s Next Korea 2021 event, they revealed the 13 original dramas, movies, and shows that will be premiering on their platform this year. Their current list of works spans a variety of genres and includes many of Korea’s most popular and trendiest stars.

The Sea of Silence

Format: Drama

Main Cast: Bae Doona, Gong Yoo, Lee Joon

The Sea of Silence is a drama featuring a team of elite crew members at an abandoned research base on the moon. The setting is in the future, where Earth is nearly barren due to global desertification, leading to little food and water.

PD Choi Hang Yong leads the drama, alongside actor Jung Woo Sung, who is participating as a producer for this drama.

D.P. (Deserter Pursuit)

Format: Drama

Main Cast: Jung Hae In, Koo Kyo Hwan, Kim Sung Kyun, Son Seok Koo

D.P. is a drama telling the chaotic story of private Lee Jun Ho, who served in the military just like any other Korean male, until he became part of a group of soldiers tasked to chase after deserters of the military.

Based on the webtoon written by Kim Bo Tong, it aims to show the abuse and human rights issues within the military, and portray both the agony and growth of the nation’s youth.

My Name

Format: Drama

Main Cast: Han So Hee, Park Hee Soon, Ahn Bo Hyun, Kim Sang Ho, Lee Hak Joo, Zhang Lu

Previously known as Undercover, My Name is a revenge drama, where the main character, Jiwoo, becomes an undercover agent of an organization and joins the police to reveal the secret of her father’s death.

The drama is led by Extracurricular PD Kim Jin Min, and will guide the story of Jiwoo’s revenge.

Move To Heaven

Broadcast: Second half of 2021

Format: Drama

Main Cast: Lee Je Hoon, Tang Joon Sang

Rising rookie actor Tang Joon Sang meets veteran Lee Je Hoon in a touching story where a man suddenly becomes the guardian of a young man with Asperger’s Syndrome. The two will work together, telling the stories of those who have passed away through the possessions they leave behind.

Squid Game

Format: Drama

Main Cast: Lee Jung Jae, Park Hae Soo

Squid Game tells the story of a group of individuals who are participating in a mysterious survival game with a prize of ₩45.6 billion KRW. With extreme and desperate situations, the decisions each individual makes is magnified even more in this intense survival game.

Love Alarm Season 2

Broadcast: March 12, 2021

Main Cast: Kim So Hyun, Jung Ga Ram, Song Kang, Go Min Seo, Kim Si Eun

The second season of Love Alarm returns much of the cast from Season One, and will continue the theme of a mobile application notifying the user if someone near them is in love with them. Many fans were curious whether a Season Two would be happening following the ending of Season One, and Netflix has confirmed it is.

Hell

Hell is a story about a supernatural phenomenon where individuals are suddenly sentenced to hell by the counsel. A thrilling story of the people within a chaotic society will unfold as people don’t know whether the hell summons are from a religious cult or a curse from God.

All Of Us Are Dead

All Of Us Are Dead continues Netflix’s zombie theme, telling the story of people trapped in a high school where a zombie virus has spread. The survivors attempt to escape, while the zombies attempt to convert the survivors.

Kingdom: Ashin of the North

A special episode of the Kingdom series, it depicts the story of Ashin, the successor of the northern provinces, and the secrets of life and death. The episode is an extension of Season Two.

Night in Paradise

Night in Paradise is a movie about a man who has become the target of a gang because he attempted to leave the gang. His sister and nephew have already been killed, and he is next, so he attempts to flee to Jeju Island, where he meets a terminally ill woman. The film premiered at the 77th Venice International Film Festival.

Lee Soo Geun headlines his own comedy show, sharing his constant adlibs and coaching the audience on how to be… just like him.

So Not Worth It is a sitcom showing the love, friendship, and youth of multi-national students living at an international dormitory in Seoul. The chemistry between the group will be the key point to look forward to, as they come from a diverse mix of backgrounds.

Baek Spirit

Main Cast: Baek Jong Won

Baek Spirit is Baek Jong Won’s reality and variety show where he will sit down with a variety of people who represent Korea, and talk with them while eating and drinking. The goal of the program is to introduce Korean alcohol, food, and culture.
