PENTAGON’s Hongseok Dishes On His Chemistry With Red Velvet’s Yeri While Filming For Their K-Drama “Blue Birthday”

Who’s excited about this thriller?!

PENTAGON‘s Hongseok recently dished on his new K-Drama Blue Birthday which also stars Red Velvet‘s Yeri!

Produced by Playlist, Blue Birthday is a fantasy romance and thriller that centers around Yeri’s character Oh Ha Rin. On her 18th birthday, Oh Ha Rin confesses to her first love Ji Seo Jun, played by Hongseok, who took his own life that same very day. The story then meets up with Oh Ha Rin 10 years later as a 28-year-old.

Hongseok shared that upon reading the script, he immediately fell in love with the character. To get the part, Hongseok stated he worked hard to persuade the director into seeing him as a perfect fit for the role. Hongseok also shared some details behind his character.

Ji Seo Jun is a warm and loving person to the those around him. He does well in school, is talented in sports, and gets along with his friends. There’s also a lonely, cold side of him that he doesn’t want to reveal to others. He may come off as perfect on the outside, but he’s lonely on the inside. He’s cold yet warm, and he has irresistible charms.

To prepare for this role, Hongseok hilariously commented that he merely prepared his handsome visuals: “I prepared good looks to look handsome.” Aside from the funny jokes, Hongseok added that he changed his appearance for the part.

I felt that Ji Seo Jun is a model student who gives off a cold vibe, so I put down my bangs in a calm style and tried to wear the school uniform as neatly as possible. He seems straightforward, but he’s also caring, so I paid attention to the tone of my acting.

As for his chemistry with Yeri, Hongseok shared that matching the friendship of their two characters in real life was easy!

The first time I met her was during the script reading, and she has a very nice personality. We were able to become close easily because we  communicate well. We got closer during each shooting and were able to easily set up the (friendship of) Ji Seo Jun and Oh Ha Rin, who have been friends for ten years. Shout-out to Kim Yerim (Yeri’s real name)!

Before he concluded his interview, Hongseok shared a sweet message for the show’s future viewers!

To our prospective viewers who have been waiting  a long time! ‘Blue Birthday’ is finally about to be released. It’s a project we enjoyed shooting and filmed with interest, so I hope it can be a enjoyable and good drama.
