Yet, it seems as if viewers aren’t the only ones who have a soft spot for the actors who play the characters. In particular, a lot of love has been shown by fans to Jung Ho Yeon, known as Kang Sae Byeok (Player 067). She has wowed everyone with her acting debut and performance in Squid Game.

In a recent interview with Netflix Korea, some of the actors and production crew sat down and discussed different aspects of the show, from the set, actors, and behind-the-scenes stories.

One of the first things they spoke about was the casting and director Hwang Dong Hyuk. When it came to Park Hae Soo (Jo Sang Woo) and Lee Jung Jae (Seong Gi Hun), Hwang Dong Hyuk explained that he had them in mind for the roles from the very beginning.

Yet, when it came to some of the other iconic characters, he added that the emphasis was on getting actors and actresses that people didn’t know well. However, he struggled with the casting and particularly trying to find someone to play Kang Sae Bok.

Hwang Dong Hyuk then revealed how an audition tape suddenly arrived with him from Jung Ho Yeon that changed the complexion of the series.

One day, an audition tape came in, and there she was: the one I’ve been looking for. It was Jung Ho Yeon, who’d been working as a model in New York.

If that wasn’t enough, Hwang Dong Hyuk then had the kindest words to say about Jung Ho Yeon, adding, “It almost felt like a gift sent by God.”
