Unclear pronunciation causes a cringeworthy moment for two Korean violinists at prestigious competition

One of the most prestigious competitions for musicians, the Queen Elisabeth Competition held in Brussels, gave rise to one of the most awkward moments in history because of a mispronounced name.

When Korean violinist Lee Ji Yoon rushed on stage after hearing her name announced as the competition’s winner, she was in complete disbelief. However, as she turned to accept her prize, she realized, she had not won.

It turns out that the jury president for the competition, Arie Van Lysebeth, mispronounced the name of the actual winner, Lim Ji Young.

After Lee hurriedly making an awkward off stage, Lim took to the stage to claim her title.
